26th October Auction Results

Hunters held another successful Property Auction on the evening of Wednesday 26th October at York Racecourse.

Sales included a property which required some work in Hinderwell Place, Scarborough. Unfortunately some previous tenants had left the property in a state of disrepair and the owner did not wish to renovate himself.  The property sold successfully at £50,000 and exchanged legally binding contracts there and then.

Another successful result for the Scarborough area was a property offered for sale through Hunters on behalf of the Joseph Rowntree Trust. This 6/7 bedroomed property on Westbourne Grove, Scarborough was originally utilised by the Trust but is now sat empty. There was a good level of interest leading up to the Auction night and we expected at least two serious bidders in the room.

Drama ensued when one of those said bidders got stuck in horrendous traffic on the way to the Racecourse. At the last moment, he pulled up on the side of the road to bid over the telephone. Between him and the gentleman in the room, the price rose to £171,000 and after going once and going twice, the gavel dropped. The gentleman on the phone was the successful buyer who then made his way to the Racecourse to exchange contracts. With an original guide price of £150,000 - £160,000, this is an excellent result for the Joseph Rowntree Trust.

The final sale of the night was much anticipated. White Cross Cottage in Main Street, Bishopthorpe had generated lots of interest leading up to the sale. Many parties aspired to secure a sale prior to Auction, however we were confident that the best possible price would be achieved in the room.

Bidding commenced and started gradually within the guide price, before going up and up, surpassing the guide price of £200,000 - £250,000. It then kept going, and going, and going until finally the bidding war was between only two parties. Both parties obviously wanted the property and were not keen to give up easily. Eventually the price settled on a whopping and extremely impressive £303,000 which is more than 21% over the guide price. The owners are very pleased with the result.
