8 Quick & Creative New Year's Party Decorations

Hosting a New Year’s Eve party? Not sure how to theme it, but determined that it won’t be a wash-out? Here are a few creative ideas to help you make a backdrop for a party that will see the New Year in with a bang, and never a fizzle.

1. Resolution Chalkboard

This is a good conversation starter. Have a chalkboard in a prominent place – like the kitchen, or near the front door, and encourage guests to chalk up their New Year’s resolutions. Pop your own on there first to get the ball rolling.

2. Bubble Balloon Wall Decorations

Blow up lots of gold, white and yellow balloons to different sizes, and attach them to the wall in a bubble-like formation.

3. Flickering Fantastic

Simply buy a bulk pack of white candles and light them abundantly around the venue for an unbeatable atmosphere. You can give candles a longer burn time by popping them in the freezer for a few hours before the party starts.

4. Party Bags

Remember party bags from when we were kids? Instead of filling party bags with balloons and sweets however, pop in an Alka-Seltzer, an eye-mask, a carton of orange juice and maybe a little bar of dark chocolate. It’s the perfect antidote to staying up a bit too late the night before.

5. Takeaway to Break Away

You could also get some takeaway cups with lids, and send guests home with a coffee or hot chocolate. The making of these is actually a sneaky little number that will help you out, too. Because it’s a subconscious clue to those people who might otherwise outstay their welcome, that now is time to go home.

6. Spread Some Light

Strands of Christmas fairy lights, in any colour, make an ideal table runner for a New Year’s Eve dinner. Just take them off the tree and pop them down the centre of the table. Easy, and it looks magical.

7. Balloon Badness (as in goodness)

Another creative but eminently simple way to use balloons is to get as many as you possibly can, just in a single colour. White works beautifully, but red, black, and indeed just about any other colour looks fantastic with the right setting and décor.

8. Indoor Sparklers

Not just for bonfire night, sparklers create a party feel on any occasion. Just be sure to choose the indoor ones, to be safe.
