Hunters expands into the south west market

Hunters, the UK’s fastest growing independent estate agency group, is expanding its reach by opening a new office in Exeter, a city attracting new growth and investment. As it breaks into the south west market for the very first time, this will bring the number of independently owned Hunters branches to over 100 nationwide.

Having opened its first branch 21 years ago in York, Hunters is a prominent and well-respected force in the north, offering expert local advice to those looking to buy, rent, let or sell a wide range of properties. Today, Hunters operates in other city centres across the country including Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Middlesborough and Hull – and has over 30 branches throughout London and the south east.

Andy Bushell, Sales Director at Hunters Property Group, said: “Since 1992, we have grown rapidly, both organically and through acquisitions, to become the UK’s fastest-growing independent estate agency network. Our first step into the south west is an exciting milestone for the business and we plan to continue looking for new franchise opportunities in this region.”

Exeter city centre has undergone a £100million modernisation in the last seven years. It now has a Michelin-starred restaurant, a film festival each spring and rail services which reach London in less than two and a half hours. With the arrival of John Lewis, the new Science Park and Sainsbury’s distribution centre, economic investment is increasing the need for homes in the city. This along with the already established businesses such as the Met Office, the Peninsula Medical School and Exeter University, means there is continued demand for property in the city.

Anthony Thomas, the new franchisee of Hunters Exeter, was born and raised in the city, returning to the city in 2007 after seven years in London. He founded Dennis James & Co, an independent lettings agency specialising in Lettings & Property Management in May 2009, after seeing the market from the tenant’s side after renting a property on his return. His aim was to create a letting agency that delivered outstanding customer service level. By taking the great opportunity to join the Hunters Network, the team now offers a full sales, as well as lettings service with the same enthusiasm and service levels, and combines existing skills and local knowledge with the Hunters brand.

Anthony comments: “I believe Exeter is an ideal place for the Hunters brand. The area is targeted for further growth over the coming years with significant development, not only in the housing stock, but also the town centre and the overall local infrastructure. We are determined to demonstrate that Hunters Exeter will make a real contribution to these plans.”
