Ruskin Park Photo Competition 2020 – Get Involved
10th July 2020 posted in Home Lifestyle
At Hunters Camberwell, we love the local area, and we like to encourage people to get out and about as much as they can. At this point in time, we hope people are social distancing when they are outside of their home, but even with social distancing measures in place, there is a lot to love about the local area.
One place we adore in the local area is Ruskin Park, found in the Denmark Hill area of Camberwell. Did you know the park is more than 110 years old? Ruskin Park was opened in February 1907 and it has become an integral part of local life for so many people.
Green space has always been important, especially in London, but right now, it is more important than ever. Thankfully, there are many people and groups working hard to ensure our local parks remain in great condition, and that people get to know all about them.
The Friends of Ruskin Park are one such group, and in their own words;
“We’re a volunteer-run charity which works to ensure our park is well cared for and maintained, and has a planned and healthy future. Since 1996 we’ve raised money to help maintain and improve the park, preserving it for future generations. We also organise and support a regular programme of events and activities. In 2016 we became a registered charity accountable both to our members and to the Charity Commission. We work closely with Lambeth Council and others with an interest in the park.”
Get involved with a local photo competition We were delighted to hear that the annual Ruskin Park Photo Competition was running again. As you’d expect, there have been a few twists to the competition, but anyone looking to get involved will find it is easy to do so. There will be an online exhibition of all the images, and people can vote online. The quality of work last year was extremely high, and there were many worthy winners in 2019:
· 1st Prize: “Snow” by Stephen Lamb
· 2nd Prize: “Shepherds' delight?” by Mandy Milward
· 3rd Prize: “Like Tropical Weather” by Rachel Heng
· Under 16’s Winner: “Sun, sky and a Beautiful Butterfly” by Paige
We are pleased to say Hunters Camberwell is supporting the 2020 Ruskin Park Photo Competition, and we look forward to seeing the great images of a place that we appreciate. If you want to take part in the competition, you have time to do so, with the competition running through to August.
The theme of the competition is “Park Pleasures.” As Friends of Ruskin Park describe it, this is a “photography competition that celebrates all aspects of Ruskin Park, its community, facilities, flora and fauna.”
