Hillingdon is a popular suburb with plenty of green space and a good mix of urban and rural areas. It’s found in Greater London within the area of Uxbridge, and it’s just 14 miles west of Charing Cross.
Transport
Hillingdon has its own Underground station making it a great location for commuters travelling into central London. Hillingdon tube station is on the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines of the London Underground, and nearby West Ruislip tube station is served by the Central line. Hillingdon is also served by the Oxford Tube and Oxford X90. There are several bus services within the area, including one that connects to Heathrow Central Bus Station. For those travelling by car, the A40 connects to the M25, M4 and M40 making travel from here easy and accessible.
Education
Families are attracted to the area because there are good school options for children of all ages. There are plenty of preschools and nurseries for very young children, such as Cheeky Chums Day Nurseries Uxbridge. Hillingdon Primary School has been rated outstanding by Ofsted, and there are many other primary options including St Bernadette Catholic Primary School and Highfield Primary School. For secondary education, there’s Oak Wood School, Bishopshalt School and De Salis Studio College. Brunel University London has its campus here providing a fantastic, local higher education setting.
Shops & Local Amenities
There are plenty of shops in and around Hillingdon with a variety of food stores such as Hillingdon Food Centre and two Co-ops. Manor Butchery Hillingdon is popular with local people, and Cake Box is another favourite as it provides a fantastic selection of sweet treats. The Pavilions is an indoor shopping centre located nearby in Uxbridge and it provides many of the high street names in the area. There’s a Marks & Spencer, Clarks, Primark, Wilko, The Entertainer and much more.
Hillingdon has plenty of places to go for a coffee with family or friends. Betty’s Café, Kookoobutnice Cafe, and Darcy’s Café are all popular independent places, and you can even try out bubble tea at Teddy Bear Bubble Tea Hillingdon. There are more well-known brands such as Costa Coffee in the area too.
When heading out for a meal, Zaza’s Lebanese Cuisine provides a great menu, and Star of India is a well-established and popular restaurant here. If you’re in the mood for a takeaway, Hillingdon Fish Bar serves up tasty fish and chips, Dynasty is a great Chinese takeaway, and there’s also Anika’s Takeaway, which serves Indian food.
Hillingdon Hospital provides healthcare to people living in the area and it’s got an Accident and Emergency Department within it too. GP services are also available at Hillingdon Health Centre.
Activities
There’s plenty of greenspace in and around Hillingdon; the whole borough of Hillingdon has an impressive 800 acres of country parks and woodlands within it, so there’s plenty to explore. Locally, Hillingdon Court Park provides tennis courts, formal gardens, a playground and a bowling green.
For those that enjoy sports, there’s Hillingdon Golf Club and Hillingdon Manor Cricket Club. Heading out towards Uxbridge, there’s also Hillingdon Sports & Leisure Complex, which has a gym, sports courts and a Grade II listed outdoor swimming pool, which was previously known as Uxbridge Lido.
Local people love the rural feel that Hillingdon has, whilst also having access to the urban side of things as well. With such good transport links, we’re never far away from the centre of the capital and all the excitement there is to be found there too.
