Why live in Oldham?

Oldham is a large town that’s surrounded by beautiful countryside in Greater Manchester.

The Metrolink makes commuting into Manchester, Rochdale or East Didsbury extremely easy. Bus services are also good here, with buses running every 10 minutes into central Manchester. Oldham is a short drive from the M60 and M62, making travel further afield an easy option by car too. Locals can get to Manchester Airport in just 30 minutes to travel abroad for work, or for an exciting holiday in the sun.

There are plenty of good primary and secondary schools in Oldham, and there are sixth forms available, as well as Oldham College. The college has a great range of subjects, courses and apprenticeships to choose from.

The town centre has plenty of shopping facilities available. The Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre has a great range of well-known brands and is located right in the centre of town. The bustling Tommyfield Market has around 300 stalls selling everything you can imagine, including delicious fresh food. The town also has an exciting range of independent stores selling clothing, shoes, and home furnishing.

Head out for coffee and cake at one of the many cafes, or make the most of the traditional pubs that are found throughout the town and surrounding countryside. There’s also a great selection of restaurants in Oldham, providing different types of food including Mediterranean, Indian and traditional British.

The Town Hall was built in 1841 and it’s where Winston Churchill had his first seat as an MP in 1900. It’s now been redeveloped and houses a large cinema complex. There’s plenty to do in Oldham, such as visit Gallery Oldham with its changing exhibitions and events, or catch a show at the Old Coliseum Theatre.

Oldham is surrounded by gorgeous countryside so it’s easy to get away at the weekends to enjoy some fresh air. There are four Countryside Centres nearby that have facilities (two have cafes) as well as things to do, and information about where to go.
