Tamworth is an ancient market town that’s in the beautiful countryside of Staffordshire and just 14 miles from Birmingham.
Tamworth is a fantastic location for professionals that want to work in the centre of Birmingham without actually living there. Tamworth train station provides regular services to Birmingham New Street, as well as London Euston, and other major cities in the UK. With easy access to the A38 and the M42, you can access nearby towns and cities quickly and easily by car too.
When looking for local schools, there are plenty of options in and around the area. Parents have the choice between a number of state schools, such as The Arthur Terry School or the King Edward the Sixth School. There are also a growing number of academies that offer an alternative approach to study. If you’re looking for an independent school in the area, there are nationally renowned private schools for both boys and girls.
Locals have a good range of options when heading out shopping. Tamworth town centre has a good number of independent stores, as well as well-known high street names. There’s a street market that runs three days a week, with over 100 stalls selling everything from fresh food, to clothing and household goods.
Ankerside Shopping Centre is in Tamworth town centre, with stores like Claire’s and Peacocks, and just outside of Tamworth there are three retail parks, including Ventura, Jolly Sailor and Cardinal Point. These have well-known brands such as M&S, River Island, New Look, Argos and Boots.
Tamworth and the surrounding areas boast some excellent local food shops, like Buzzards Valley, which is a winery, café, fishery and shop that overlooks the countryside. Chase Farm Shop and Café has a history that dates back 150 years, and there’s a modern butchers onsite that use traditional skills.
Local independent restaurants include Marmion Balti and Portobello Restaurant, but there are also the known chains like Frankie & Bennys available. Local pubs include The King’s Ditch, which is Tamworth’s first micro-pub, serving local ales. Market Vaults is another local pub serving up good food and beer, and it has an outside area too.
Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital is Tamworth’s local hospital, and there are local GPs and several pharmacies too.
The Snowdome is located in Tamworth itself so it provides a perfect day of adventure and fun for local families. It’s well-known throughout Staffordshire, as it’s been teaching people how to snowboard, ski and ice skate, for over 23 years.
Drayton Manor is another local prize for thrill-seekers due to its wide variety of rides and activities to keep the entire family entertained. There are over 100 rides, including the favourites The Bounty Pirate Ship and The Apocalypse (which is something you’ll never forget). If you feel like taking things a little slower, there’s a 15-acre zoo right next to the amusement park.
Another great day out can be had at Tamworth Castle, which dates back over 900 years. There are interactive displays and tasks to get involved with, and they put on different events throughout the year too. The castle grounds provide a lot of fun with crazy golf, bowling, The Planet Walk, skate park, and more.
