The town has a rich history dating back to the mid-1200s, and the street layout is still largely mediaeval with a web of little roads to explore. The M5 is five miles from the town, making travelling further afield by car a good option. The bustling town centre has a great range of independent shops to browse and enjoy. Cookability sells a range of kitchenware, and there’s Clarence’s gift shop, Wotton Pet Shop, Tanzee Designs craft shop and the Cotswold Book Room, amongst many others. A farmer’s market takes place in the Town Hall on the first Saturday of every month, with stalls full of local produce, plants and craft items. The Auction Room hosts antique sales at the end of every month, and the Town Hall hosts “Town Hall Teas” on Sunday afternoons from April to October.

The town centre has a great range of independent food and drinks, including The Edge Coffee Shop and The Wotton Coffee Shop. There’s a thriving pub scene here, with traditional pubs like The Swan Hotel, a 17th-century inn, and The Royal Oak Inn serving up homecooked meals. The Falcon Steakhouse is another good choice, and it provides delicious, locally sourced food. You can also eat out at India Palace or get a takeaway from Delights Pizza & Kebab.
