10 Wonderfully Weird Items of Furniture

Fri 12 Apr 2013

This week I've been having a browse through the hordes of weird and wonderful images on Flickr Creative Commons, and noticed some accordingly wonderfully weird items of furniture. What do you think? Cool or OTT? Could you live with them, and would you want to?

1. Chair with Strings

Dreamed up by Danish designer Åsa Alvi Kärner, this chair featured in the 2011 Stockholm Furniture Fair. It reminds me a bit of a harp, or a weaving loom, or one of those 70s artworks with the crossover strings.

2. Knitting Needles and Yarn Chair

Another feature in the 2011 Stockholm Furniture Fair, this fanciful furniture item was designed by Miriam Ortwed. It takes the concept of a knitting chair to a whole new level.

3. Union Jack Dresser

Union Jacks are trendy, gracing everything from mugs to cushion covers. But would you go as far as painting up an entire item of furniture with the famous flag?

Perhaps you prefer the boudoir look, in which case this leopard print dresser is just the ticket.

10. Internet Chairs

These internet chairs at Helsinki Airport look like the perfect way to while away those otherwise boring hours waiting for a flight to be ready. Hopefully it won't be long before they appear in every airport.
