North Shields & Tynemouth Area Guide

North Shields and Tynemouth are based at the coast approximately 8 miles east of Newcastle. In recent years the area has undergone development and has a number of restaurants and flats.  Tynemouth village has a real cafe culture with many visitors being attracted at the weekend when a large market is also held at the metro station in Tynemouth.  People from all over the region travel to pick up antiques, fresh foods and crafts.
Tynemouth Priory/Castle, part of English Heritage is a prominent landmark. There are beautiful blue flag beaches attracting visitors all year round.

In July each year Tynemouth host the mouth of the Tyne festival with an exciting headlining act each year.  The main street is closed and there are street stalls, entertainers and live music.  North Shields also hosts an annual Victorian Christmas market, selling crafts and gifts.

Tynemouth is an area popular with families. A former private school recently merged with a highly regarded state primary school to form an academy. North Shields is close to our office and Northumberland Park is popular with first time buyers and investors as there is a good rental yield. The park is a £1million transformation.

North Shields is in easy reach of Newcastle city centre by car or metro, only 20 minutes ride.  You can travel from North Shields to Norway and Amsterdam by ferry. On a smaller scale North Shields is linked to South Shields via the Tyne tunnel.
