Why live in Whitchurch?

Whitchurch is a small village found just four miles south of Bristol.

With the A37 passing right through Whitchurch, the village has good road links to Bristol and other nearby towns and villages. The A37 is known locally as Wells Road and it links Bristol with Dorchester. There are bus services running every 30 minutes to take locals from Whitchurch into the centre of Bristol. This gives easy access to Bristol Temple Meads station, making travel around the country easily accessible from here.

Whitchurch has small independent shops, barbers and florists. There’s a big supermarket locally, as well as smaller grocery stores. Nearby Hengrove and Stockwood have morel shopping too. Hengrove has retail parks, which are home to a cinema, big brand shops and well-known chains of places to eat out.

When eating out, there are some great cafes, restaurants, and pubs, and there are also some good takeaways too.

Bristol city centre is easily accessible as it’s so close to Whitchurch. This gives residents the best of both worlds; a quiet residential area to live in with plenty of green space nearby, with quick access to the buzz of the city centre and its brilliant shopping and nightlife.

Local area guide

Whitchurch is a small village in north Somerset, just four miles south of Bristol city centre.

Local villages include Pensford, Norton Maleward, Clutton, Temple Cloud, Chew Magna and Farrington Gurney, Stanton Drew and Compton Dando.

Whitchurch has several schools including Whitchurch Primary, Bridge Farm Primary School, Waycroft Academy, and St Bernadette’s Catholic Secondary School.

There are good local businesses and shopping options, including The Costume Shop, Blooming Great (the local florists) and The Barbershop. There’s a Tesco Express and an ASDA Superstore in Whitchurch.

Hengrove is just under two miles away and has a leisure park with Cineworld and plenty of places to eat too, like McDonald’s and KFC. It’s right next to Hengrove Park, which has sand and water play, a skateboard park, climbing pyramids, a climbing wall, and so much more.

Bristol Imperial Park is also close by with large stores available, such as Hobbycraft, B&M, ALDI, Next and there are places to eat and drink here too.

Stockwood is right next to Whitchurch and it has a small shopping centre with a green area offering great views of the city. There’s a lot of green space here generally, with fields and a wooded valley. Stockwood Open Space is the local nature reserve, with meadows, hedgerows, woodland and ponds, and it has fully accessible pathways.

Local places to eat and drink include Caffe Rosa and Poppy’s Kitchen and locals enjoy buying cakes and sweet treats from Dream Bites. Takeaway options include Bristol Kebab House, Gilda Fish Bar and Golden Orient, which serves Chinese food.

When you want to head out for a meal, there are the local Indian restaurants, Paprika and Blue Ginger. One of the good pubs is The Whitchurch, and it serves up good food and beer.

Whitchurch’s closest hospital is South Bristol Community Hospital which is just over two miles away, though Whitchurch also has its own health centre for local residents.

For those who enjoy keeping active, Knowle Golf Club is nearby, and there’s Hengrove Park Leisure Centre with its 50m international swimming pool and 20m teaching pool. It also has a gym, spin studio, a sauna and steam room, a climbing wall and much more.

As Whitchurch is so close to central Bristol, residents enjoy living in a quiet, residential area, while having easy access to the buzz and excitement of the city centre.
