Catford

Catford is in southeast London and is set to become one of the greenest areas in the capital.

There are two local train stations; Catford and Catford Bridge. These provide regular services into central London that take approximately 25 minutes. There are many good bus services in the area too, with lots of buses to nearby Lewisham (which offers further connections) and commuter buses to London Bridge and Victoria. The A205 South Circular goes through the area for travel by car, and the A2 is within easy reach.

Catford has good education, starting with several nurseries for very young children. There are good primary schools too, including Holy Cross Primary School and Rushey Green Primary School. The independent St Dunstan’s College, which also has a sixth form, and several other schools nearby for secondary education.

Catford Food Market sells a great range of produce and street food, and it also has House of Catford, a local gift shop. This is a separate market to the daily Catford Market, which runs on Catford Broadway and has stalls selling fresh fruit and veg, fish, plants, clothing and much more.

There are some well-known brands within the area, including Boots, Tesco Superstore and JD Sports, plus a good mix of independents starting to develop here. Catford Cornucopia sells a great mix of clothing and homeware, and Bottle Bar and Shop sells an extensive mix of drinks (including mixed cocktails and craft ales) to take away, but it’s also got a great bar there to enjoy with friends.

There are some lovely places to go out for a meal or drink in Catford. Sapporo Ichiban is a popular Japanese restaurant, and Fourteen|87 Restaurant & Cocktail Bar serves tasty food with a Caribbean twist. There’s also EaTurkish, which has a great selection of dishes, including kebabs and burgers, and it’s a popular choice with the locals here. There are some chain eateries in the area, too, like Nandos and Dominos.

Healthcare is good here, with the nearest hospital being just a mile away in Lewisham, and there are local GP services, pharmacies, dentists and opticians.

Locals enjoy making the most of the green spaces that Catford has to offer. Mountsfield Park is a large area with playing fields, a children’s play area and a café. Ladywell Fields is another great local option, and it has the Ravensbourne River running through the middle of it.

The Broadway Theatre is almost 90 years old, and it’s within a Grade II listed building that seats 800 people. It hosts a great mix of shows throughout the year, including musicals, drama, comedy and pantomimes.
