Hayes is a town in west London with plentiful greenspace and it has the Grand Union Canal running through it.
Travel
The area is well connected for travel, as Hayes & Harlington train station provides direct links to London Paddington, Reading and Heathrow Airport (it takes just six minutes to reach the airport on the Heathrow Connect service). The train station is on the new Elizabeth line, which has opened up direct connections to Tottenham Court Road, Liverpool St and Stratford. For those travelling by car, Hayes is close to junctions 3 and 4 of the M4. There are plenty of local bus services connecting residents to all parts of London too.
Education
Hayes has plenty of schools available making it a good location for families. Lake Farm Park Academy is a primary school that’s on the edge of the beautiful country park here. Hayes Park School is another local primary school that’s been rated good by Ofsted and it has a nursery on site too. There are several secondary schools here including Barnhill Community High School, Harlington School and Guru Nanak Sikh Academy.
Shops & Local Amenities
Lombardy Retail Park provides many of the high street names, such as H&M, JD Sports and Next. It also has a Sainsbury’s supermarket, and there are plenty of other food shops including a Lidl and independents like Hayes Food Centre.
There are several independent bakeries in Hayes, including Cake Box, Hamza Bakery and Afgan Bakery. Hayes provides a great choice of restaurants including the popular Nepalese restaurant, Namaste Gurka, and the East African restaurant called Brothers 2 Restaurant. There are some popular traditional pubs to enjoy in the area, such as The Old Crown or Captain Morgan Hayes, and there’s a JD Wetherspoon called The Botwell Inn.
Healthcare is provided through several medical centres and clinics that are located here, and there’s also Hillingdon Hospital, which is just over a mile away.
Activities
Residents enjoy making the most of all the green space that Hayes has to offer. The town has three conservation areas and several parks. Minet Country Park provides 90 acres to explore, and Barra Hall Park provides a further 20 acres of land, and it features a Grade II listed manor house, a bandstand and formal gardens. Lake Farm Country Park has 63 acres of land and it’s a winner of a Green Flag award. There’s also the Grand Union Canal where locals enjoy quiet, waterside walks and seeing all the wildlife that’s around the area.
Hayes is well-known for being the home of the EMI, which is where all the Beatle’s albums were manufactured. The town has a gold disc installation which was made to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Beatle’s album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The town is also home to the headquarters of companies like Heinz and United Biscuits. EMI’s former home is now called The Old Vinyl Factory and it’s a mix of Art Deco buildings that have been redeveloped into offices, homes, educational hubs and a mix of restaurants and shops.
