Newcastle is a large city in northeast England. It’s full of fantastic shops, restaurants, nightlife, and plenty of attractions to suit people of all ages.
The Tyne and Wear Metro is a really easy way to get around the city and out to Gateshead, Sunderland and Tynemouth. If you’re travelling by train, Newcastle Central Station is one of the busiest stations in the country and has nationwide services to London (taking two or three hours) and Edinburgh (taking about an hour and a half).
If you prefer to travel by car, Newcastle’s road networks are excellent. The A1 and the A19 are close to central Newcastle, making travelling further afield an easy option. Newcastle Airport is just outside of the city centre for international travel with flights to over 90 destinations. You can easily get to the airport by Metro with regular services that take just 20 minutes.
Newcastle has lots of good schools. There are over 74 primary schools and plenty of secondary schools with both state and independent options. The also city boasts two universities; Newcastle University and Northumbria University.
When it comes to shopping, Newcastle has it all. Northumberland Street has a lot of well-known brands, including Ted Baker, H&M and Marks & Spencer. Fenwick Newcastle department store can also be accessed from here and it hosts affordable high street names and luxury brands such as Mulberry and Michael Kors. It also has a rooftop bar and restaurant, Roof Thirty Nine. Eldon Square shopping centre also has plenty of stores and eateries, including a John Lewis. In nearby Gateshead, the Metrocentre is a huge shopping and leisure centre with over 330 stores. There are independent stores in various parts of the city, such as great fashion boutiques, bookshops and cafes in Jesmond.
The city centre has great nightlife, with plenty of bars, pubs, restaurants and clubs. The Quayside is a must-visit area of the city with plenty of hotspots with live DJs and fantastic restaurants that have rooftop views across the city. If you’re into craft beer then head to By the River Brew Co, which is under Tyne Bridge.
Newcastle centre has great healthcare, including hospitals, pharmacies, GP services and dental practices. There are various ways to keep fit too, with leisure centres available throughout the city.
Newcastle has plenty to see and do throughout the year, such as exploring space at the Life Science Centre or history at the Discovery Museum. There are great parks throughout the city, including Jesmond Dene and Heaton Park, and the coast is within easy reach too.
