North Leeds is a suburban area on the outskirts of Leeds city centre. Leeds is a vibrant and creative city that sits on the River Aire in West Yorkshire.
Transport networks are great as the north Leeds area is just a few miles from Leeds train station, which is in the city centre. There are plenty of bus services in and out of Leeds, so getting into the city for work is really easy for commuters. When going further afield, the train station provides excellent services across the UK; travellers can reach London Kings Cross in just over two hours, Newcastle in an hour and a half, and Edinburgh in three hours. For those travelling by car, the A1 runs to the east of the city providing great roads north, and the M1 is also close by, heading south. The M62 is within easy reach, and drivers use this to reach Manchester (which takes about an hour). When travelling abroad for work or pleasure, Leeds Bradford airport is only a 25 minute drive away.
There’s a fantastic selection of schools across north Leeds, which provide education for all ages of children. There are plenty of primary schools including Alwoodley Primary School, Oakwood Primary Academy and Shadwell Primary School. Roundhay school is a secondary school and sixth form that received an outstanding rating from Ofsted, and The Grammar School at Leeds is an independent school for 3-18yr olds that dates back to 1552.
North Leeds has some lovely independent stores available, Like Oakwood Vintage, and With Love (a gift shop), and there are plenty local supermarkets for the weekly grocery shop too. However, if you want to shop in all the high street stores you’re only a few miles from Leeds city centre and all it has to offer. Head to Trinity Leeds for the well-known brands (like Next and H&M), or if you’re after more luxury items, then the beautiful Victoria Quarter has a fantastic range of stores (including Hobbs, John Lewis and Kurt Geiger). The Corn Exchange is a spectacular building with independent boutiques inside and Leeds Kirkgate Market is one of the largest markets in Europe.
Leeds is full of great places to eat and drink, and this continues through into the suburbs. Flying Pizza in Roundhay has been attracting diners since 1974, The Roundhay Fox is a cosy pub that’s always popular and Hayley and Clifford is a fantastic deli and café. Alwoodley has the authentic Italian, Amici, whilst Moortown enjoys Panzerotto Ristorante Italiano. Oakwood locals love Stew and Oyster for its hearty food and Shadwell Tandoori Restaurant serves tasty food and provides diners with wonderful service.
Regarding healthcare, Chapel Allerton Hospital is available locally and there’s Leeds General Infirmary in the centre of Leeds. North Leeds Medical Practice provides GP services within the local area too.
Roundhay Park has over 700 acres of parkland to explore and Tropical World is right next to it making a great day out for families. Temple Newsam is another fun place to visit with its impressive house and gardens, as well as the award-winning Home Farm.
Nearby, Headingley Cricket Ground is a great place to watch county and international cricket and it’s right next to Leeds Rhinos’ Rugby Stadium. Moortown Golf Club is a lovely moorland golf club that was founded in 1909 and it’s where the first Ryder Cup held in Europe was hosted in 1929.
