Solihull

Solihull is a historic market town surrounded by beautiful countryside. It has the best of both worlds; it’s a large town with lots going on and great amenities, but it’s also a quaint, leafy place with stunning timber-framed Tudor buildings.

One of the major benefits of living in Solihull is its location. Locals reach Birmingham in just 10-15 minutes by train, so it’s a fantastic location for commuters. Being near a great road network (that includes the M42) means that other towns and cities are easily reached by car. Coventry, for example, only takes about half an hour to travel to from Solihull by car. There are excellent transport links to the rest of the country too, whether it be for work or pleasure, and Birmingham Airport is close by when you want to travel even further afield.

Solihull has a number of primary and secondary schools, many of which are high performing. Solihull School is a local independent school covering education from nursery-age years right through to sixth form level, and it was founded back in 1560. Solihull Sixth-Form College is located near the town centre, and Solihull College offers degree courses. Whilst there aren’t any universities here, the nearest are just a few miles away in both Birmingham and Coventry.

Solihull has a good number of prestigious shopping centres, like Touchwood, which hosts over 80 stores (including John Lewis), a Cineworld cinema and over 20 bars and restaurants. Mell Square Shopping Centre is an outdoor shopping outlet that hosts high street names like New Look and Argos, as well as some independent boutiques, like Madeleine Ann.

The town is filled with great dining options, from the affordable to the luxurious, as well as the local to the international. There are many independently-owned eateries offering excellent service, and quality dishes. The Delhi (a local Indian restaurant) and Morton’s Kitchen, Bar & Deli are just a couple of the local independent places that we’d recommend. There are also plenty of well-known chain restaurants available for the times that you simply fancy a Nandos, Pizza Express or TGI Fridays.

There are plenty of places to go out for a drink throughout the town, including chains such as Slug & Lettuce, independents like Green’s Cocktail Lounge, and traditional pubs such as The Mason’s Arms.

Solihull Hospital is available centrally providing healthcare for locals, and there are plenty of local GP practices too.

People come from miles around to take in a show at Resorts World Arena. It attracts some of the biggest names in the music, comedy and sports industries, and puts on spectacular shows.

If you prefer something a little more low-key, Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens is a beautiful place to visit, particularly in the summer months. There’s no lack of greenspace in Solihull itself though, as it has over 1,500 acres of greenspace and 10 of its parks have been given a Green Flag Award.

A trip to The National Exhibition Centre is another easy outing for locals as it’s only 10 minutes from Solihull. There’s plenty to see here as it hosts over 140 different events every year.
