Stalybridge

Stalybridge is eight miles east of Manchester at the foot of the Pennine Way.

The M67 is only a mile away, making it easy to get around and throughout Manchester and Greater Manchester. The A635 passes through Stalybridge with an easy route straight into the city centre. Stalybridge train station has services to Huddersfield and Leeds, and regular services to Manchester Piccadilly that take just 20 minutes. This makes the town a great base for commuters who work in the city while living a little further out from the hustle and bustle.

Stalybridge is good for families as there are so many primary schools. St Peter’s Catholic Primary School received an outstanding rating from Ofsted, and Stalyhill Junior School received a good rating. There are several secondary schools in and around Stalybridge, including West Hill School, which is a local boy’s school that was founded in 1927. Copley School is a mixed-gender academy, and Trinity Christian School is for children aged 3-16yrs.

There are many independent stores in Stalybridge for a varied day out shopping. Magpie’s Nest is a gift shop selling beautiful items, Aspinall’s Boutique is a ladies clothing store and Stalybridge Pets, Equine & Aquatics has everything you need to look after your pets and animals. For grocery shopping, there’s a Tesco Superstore and an ALDI. There are even more shops in nearby Ashton under Lyne, which has a couple of shopping centres with some national retail brands, as well as a Marks and Spencer Food Hall and a Sainsbury’s.

For a bite to eat at lunchtime, Bunters Sandwich Bar is a popular local café serving tasty food, and Bun Voyage serves homemade bread and cakes. There are great pubs in the area, including the popular Stalybridge Buffet Bar, which is a Victorian train station bar with memorabilia and fantastic real ales. The Organ and Old Hunters Tavern are two more local favourites for a refreshing pint.

Staybridge has fantastic restaurants. Deli Felice Turkish Cuisine is on the banks of the Tame with open-top dining when the weather’s good. It serves tasty food and cocktails and has a lovely atmosphere. Argento is a brilliant Italian restaurant and Vevas Indian Restaurant is worth a visit too.

For healthcare, there are a lot of GP practices as well as Tameside hospital, which is just over a mile away.

There are gorgeous green spaces such as Stamford Park with play areas, woodlands and a café.

Stalybridge Country Park has lovely walks along the riverside, in wooded valleys, and across open moorland. There are plenty of picnic areas and you can find some amazing views if you climb to the top of Wild Bank. There are plenty of events put on here throughout the year for children, all run by The Ranger Service.
