Yate is a town in South Gloucestershire, just 11 miles north of Bristol city centre. Dating back over 1,300 years, the town has a rich history, and there are beautiful medieval buildings to be seen here. Chipping Sodbury is the neighbouring market town with a beautiful long market square, and its within easy reach of Yate.
Yate train station makes commuting from here a great option as it’s on the Bristol to Birmingham line, so both of these large cities are within easy reach. These main stations have excellent nationwide services, which makes travelling to the rest of the UK accessible from here too. Good road links mean that Bath can be reached in just half an hour by car, and with the M4 running just south of Yate, travelling further afield is easy too. The bus services are excellent, with regular services to both Bath and Bristol, as well as nearby towns.
Yate has eight primary schools to choose from, such as North Road School and St Mary’s School. For older children, there are two secondary schools in Yate, including Brimsham Green School.
Yate Shopping Centre was one of the first to be built in the UK and has over 100 shops including Boots, Argos, Marks and Spencer, New Look and more. Choose from a good range of places to eat and drink within the centre too, including Costa, Nando’s, and Boswell’s Café. The Riverside section of the shopping centre is its newest addition, hosting a six screen Cineworld, Next and Little Giggles Soft Play.
The Vintage Birdcage is a gorgeous local tearoom, offering breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, and it has a beautiful courtyard to enjoy in good weather.
When heading out for the evening, there’s a brilliant selection of bars and pubs to choose from, both in Yate and next door in Chipping Sodbury. Head to Shan’s Cabaret Bar for cocktails and a variety of entertainment, or enjoy The Horseshoe, which is a traditional pub in a building that dates back to the 15th century. The Lawns is another local pub with plenty of events, good food, and a beer garden.
Local restaurants include Bolero Lounge with great food and cocktails in an open plan setting, Indian restaurant Tudor Raj, and Roberto’s Ristorante & Pizzeria.
There are great amenities in Yate, with several doctor’s surgeries, a 24-hour minor emergency centre, and dental practices too. There’s a local library, and Yate Leisure Centre, which has a gym, pool, tennis courts and more.
There are several local parks to enjoy, including the award-winning Kingsgate Park. This beautiful park has a lake (which is home to the protected species of the Greater Crested Newt) and a fantastic adventure playground.
Yate is also surrounded by beautiful countryside and it’s just south of The Cotswolds, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Because Yate’s so close to Bristol, there’s plenty to do in the city centre which is only 20 minutes away by train. Historic Bath is also very close, with much to explore too.
