Why live in Scarborough?
Scarborough is a coastal town in North Yorkshire with sandy beaches and lots of things to do.
The town has excellent transport links. The A64 connects Scarborough to York and Leeds, the A171 takes you through to Middlesbrough and the A170 to Thirsk. The train station has services to York taking just 45 minutes, and there are nationwide links from there too, including services to London.
Scarborough has it all when it comes to shopping. The local shopping centre has national high street names, while there’s an array of independent stores in town to shop too. Scarborough Market Hall & Vaults is a great place to find them by exploring the unique underground level. The other floors have a food court and the town’s traditional market stalls.
You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to independent tea shops and coffee shops, with plenty of quality food and drinks on offer. Being by the sea means there’s a huge choice of delicious fish and chips available too, either to eat in or takeaway. There are lots of traditional pubs throughout Scarborough, many of which serve hearty food alongside their great beers. The local restaurants and bistros serve a varied range of international cuisines, and there are some with bar areas too.
For everyday needs, there are GP surgeries and a local hospital. There’s also a library, Post Offices and two leisure centres. Peasholme Park is a beautiful place to go for a walk as it has lovely gardens that surround the lake, and you can hire boats and pedalos there too.
There are two main beach areas; North Bay and South Bay. North Bay has a lovely long stretch of sandy beach, and it’s backed with colourful beach huts that you can hire for the day. South Beach has a lot more entertainment on offer, and there are boat trips you can go on from here as well.
