It may not feel like it with this cold and somewhat wintery weather, but spring is definitely here. The days are getting longer and soon we will be able to relax in the garden with a drink in hand, enjoying the warm breeze and beautiful trees and flowers around us.
It is easy to turn your house into a cosy hub of warmth when you are getting ready for winter, but how do you transform it into a sunny spring home ready for the brighter months ahead?
Bring the Outside In
If you have a flourishing garden, then nothing will bring spring into your home more than freshly cut flowers. Place a few vases around the house and choose a few different flowers to put in them.
This will instantly brighten up your home and give it a fresh and energised feel. Just having a few different sights and smells can really bring some instant vitality to a room and give it a nice spring feel.
It is easy enough to accumulate clutter around your house, especially when you have had multiple blankets and extra clothing out for winter that take up space. Go through all your clothes and separate the wool jumpers from the t-shirts and shorts and store away any winter clothing you won’t need for a good few months.
In other rooms just tidy away any bits and bobs that aren’t being used much, such as games, magazines and anything else that has a habit of getting left out. Having the extra space and less clutter around will make your home feel more airy.
Use a Splash of Colour
You will be surprised by just how much of an effect a bit of bright colouring can have on your home. If you have the time and energy, then why not pick a nice pastel shade of pink and yellow and paint a couple of the walls around your home.
If you don’t want to go quite so far, then you can easily pick up a few brightly coloured cushions and throws and place them on different pieces of furniture around your house - this will have an instant brightening effect.
Make Your Garden Flourish
It is easy to focus on your house when giving it a bit of a make over, but as the summer months roll around you will want to spend more time in your garden too. It is best to consider your garden a few months before spring, but it isn’t the end of the world if you don’t.
First things first, cut your lawn – this will give your garden an instant fresh look and there is nothing more summery than the smell of fresh cut grass. Go to your garden centre and find some nice colourful flowers and plant them in your garden. Cut back any existing shrubs and tidy up any paths and borders too.
Change Your Fabrics
Just like with paint, the fabrics you choose in your home can make a great difference in creating a certain feel in your home. Choose bright curtains for your windows and even think about your bedding, as this will make your bedroom feel more summery each morning and evening.
If you have sofas and cushions with covers on, then you could always invest in seasonal fabrics – one for the summer months that is lighter and brighter, and a darker one for the winter months.
A spring makeover doesn’t mean giving your entire house an overhaul, it simply means making a few small changes here and there to give your home a bright, fresh feel.
