Leighton Buzzard is a vibrant market town in Bedfordshire, near the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The town has excellent transport links to London and Milton Keyes, making it a fantastic place to live for commuters. The train station runs frequent services to London Euston station with some taking less than 30 minutes. Milton Keyes is just a 15-minute train journey or a 20-minute drive away. The M1 and the A5 run close to Leighton Buzzard, and Luton Airport is just a 30-minute drive away, opening up options for international travel.
Leighton Buzzard has a three-tier education system. There are plenty of lower school options for families, such as Pulford Church of England Lower School and Heathwood Lower School. There are four middle schools in the area, two upper schools, and Central Bedfordshire College has a campus here too.
Waterborne Walk Shopping Centre is in the centre of town and has high street names, like New Look, Argos, Superdrug, and Waitrose. The town has great independent stores, including Bee Gee Cards, Dream a Gift, and Kings Road Fashions. There’s a market that’s held on High Street twice a week too.
Fancy a night off cooking? Mevan Restaurant & Bar Leighton Buzzard serves Turkish food, Rustico Italian Bistro, Mama Rosa and Martini Restaurant are also worth visiting for a bite to eat. There’s also a variety of coffee shops for a mid-shopping pit stop.
Healthcare is good here, with plenty of GP services, pharmacies and dental practices.
Leighton Buzzard has a great community feel and plenty going on. The town’s park hosts music concerts every Sunday afternoon in the summer months, and the Linslade Canal Festival at the end of July attracts more than 9,000 visitors every year.
Leighton also has Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre, which has a large swimming pool, popular Harper’s fitness gym and indoor sports courts. Nearby, Woburn has a Centre Parcs and a world-famous golf club, which hosted the British Masters in 2015. And of course there is also the beautiful Rushmere Country Park just a short drive away from the town centre.
Leighton Buzzard Railway is a very popular narrow-gauge railway that’s been running since 1919. The railway initially supported the local sand industry, but today it’s a steam-hauled tourist attraction providing a fun 85 minute round trip for passengers. Its railway history doesn’t stop there; the 1963 Great Train Robbery took place a mile outside town.
The All Saints Church, dating from 1277, and the unique 15th-century market cross at the top of the high street is among its landmarks.
