Why live in Pudsey?

Pudsey is a Victorian market town in West Yorkshire. It’s just five miles from the centre of Leeds, and four miles from Bradford city centre.

Pudsey is well-placed for transport links as there’s New Pudsey train station here (about a mile from the town centre) as well as another station nearby in Bramley. The town is just off Leeds ring road, which connects through to the city centre and the motorway networks, making it easy to travel further afield from here. The busy bus station provides access to the whole of Leeds, Bradford and the outlying areas of the West Yorkshire region.

Families love Pudsey because there are plenty of schools available locally. There are lots of primary schools within the town, as well as several secondary schools, both locally and nearby.

The local market runs here three times a week and it’s a fantastic place to pick up some fresh produce, as well as other items. There’s a large shopping outlet nearby and it has a large supermarket as well as some other well-known stores. There are shops available within Pudsey town centre too, including some lovely independent stores.

Pudsey has a fantastic selection of local restaurants and there’s an exciting range of cuisines to choose from when eating out here. There’s a local Italian, a Pakistani restaurant, a Thai restaurant, and more besides. The town has some lovely pubs to meet friends or family in, and there are some great bars here too.

Our local leisure centre has a fantastic swimming pool and it also puts on some fun fitness classes. Pudsey Park is ever-popular and rightly so, as it won a Green Flag award for excellence.

Many people have heard of Pudsey due to the BBC Children in Need’s mascot; Pudsey Bear. The bear’s designer named him after the town because this is where she’s from.

  • Pudsey - Martin Collins.jpg

    Martin Collins

    Managing Director

I started in 1980, and spent 40 years helping thousands of people get to where they want to be. I opened the Pudsey office in 2009 and the Horsforth office in 2014, which is now well established. We opened with two members of staff and no houses to sell, now the Pudsey office has a dedicated team of nine staff, and we operate seven days a week. We have adapted to the needs of the customer and been able to develop the team to a high standard, and I’m very proud of what we have so far achieved. My journey continues.

  • JACKIE 2.jpg

    Jackie Marwick

    Office Manager

I have a long history in customer service and I joined Hunters Pudsey as Sales administrator in July 2015 as a temporary staff member covering maternity leave. I very quickly grew to love working for Hunters, the job I do and the people I work with and well before my cover was due to end, I had decided I wanted to stay permanently! Fortunately, a vacancy arose at the office which meant I could stay on as a permanent member of staff and I have never looked back. Eventually, approximately two years ago, I was promoted to Office Manager.

I love the varied role my job offers from bringing in new business to management statistics. Every day is different!! Away from the office I am a Wife and Mum to 3 crazy kids. I am a real social bee and always like keeping busy.

After working in Lettings for six and a half years, Martin gave the opportunity to progress my career and I have enjoyed every minute, I work with an amazing supportive team and each day is different. My role varies from registering clients to negotiating offers whilst maintaining a strong relationship with our vendors and helping them through the marketing stage of selling their home.

    Sales Negotiator

I joined hunters in July 2020 at the busiest and most challenging time! I’m 28 years old and have a long career in customer service. In my previous job I worked my way up the ladder to become assistant manager and I will always strive to do my best for my customers and Hunters. I see every day as new challenge meeting new vendors and buyers expectations and getting them exactly what they are looking for and where they want to be.

  • MANDY.jpg

    Mandy Iddison

    Sales Negotiator

I have worked as an estate agent for over 23 years and before that I was a secretary/PA for a chartered accountant so I always worked in a professional customer service industry. I’ve seen a lot of change during that 23 years and must say the last year has been a challenge, keeping our vendors and buyers safe while continuing our work. I am currently the weekender here in Pudsey and I’m proud to work with such a fantastic team of people.

Local area guide

Pudsey is a charming market town, located on the west side of Leeds, about 5 miles to Leeds city centre and 4 miles to Bradford.

There is a variety of property styles in the area and many of the houses are built in local stone, some dating back to the 18th and 19th century, which have lots of the character and charm of the period.

These character properties sit comfortably alongside the more recent built housing, which forms the town as it is today.

Pudsey is a thriving and vibrant community that stretches north towards the river air/Leeds canal and east towards the motorway network, to access commuting links to the M1 and M62, therefore, Pudsey is well-placed for great transport links via the Pudsey and Bramley railway stations and the Leeds Ring Road, which connects to city. The busy bus station In Pudsey and Bramley provides access to the whole of Leeds/Bradford and to outlying areas in the region. First time buyers and couples particular enjoy the easy access to the city and to sample the many local cafés/restaurants and public services that are available in the immediate location.

There are a number of well-regarded schools in the area for all age ranges, which make it popular for young families and several local sports facilities, football/cricket/rugby and running clubs for recreation and health benefits, including the leisure centre in Pudsey and swimming baths in Bramley. The shopping facilities in the area are popular too with numerous supermarkets and a good variety of local shops providing a great choice of local services. The Pudsey market is a favourite of the locals and still opens three days a week with a farmer’s market once a month on Sundays.

The Owlcotes shopping centre is right on the doorstep, which includes the Asda superstore and Marks and Spencer outlets. The area is also well regarded for its easy access to open countryside, for walking and other outdoor pursuits.

Don’t forget, the famous Pudsey Bear was born in the area and can often be seen in the town.
