Aylesbury is a market town north of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s close to London but has all the amenities you need, so it’s a fantastic place to live.
The town has two train stations; Aylesbury Vale Parkway and Aylesbury train station, which is in the centre of town. The train stations make commuting to London’s Marylebone station easy, with regular services taking just over an hour. If you commute by car, Aylesbury is close to the M40, the A41 and the A418, which link to Bicester, Oxford, Milton Keynes and London.
Aylesbury has excellent schools. There are three grammar schools, the oldest of which is the boys-only Aylesbury Grammar School, founded in the 16th century. Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School is a mixed-gender school, and there’s also the girls-only Aylesbury High School. Other secondary schools include The Grange School, John Colet School, and The Aylesbury Vale Academy.
The thriving town has a historical centre that hosts markets in the square every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Aylesbury has three shopping centres; Friars Square, Hale Leys and Aylesbury Shopping Park. Each shopping centre has plenty of well-known high street brands, including H&M, River Island and Boots. Alongside household names, there are also lots of independent stores. Number 1 is a gorgeous gift shop; you can refill dry food and essentials at Aylesbury Eco Stores or buy an instrument from Aylesbury Music.
The town has fantastic cafes, bars and restaurants, with something delicious available any time of the day or night. Tuck into Japanese food at Sushi Corner Aylesbury, Turkish cuisine at Kuzzu Turkish Bar & Grill, or head to the highly-rated Desire Indian Restaurant. There are some brilliant local pubs, including The King’s Head, which is in a restored 15th-century coaching inn, and The Rockwood is a 19th-century pub with lovely food and real ales.
For healthcare, Stoke Mandeville Hospital and The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospitals both serve the local area alongside several GP surgeries.
The town has great amenities, including leisure centres like Aqua Vale Swimming & Fitness Centre, which has indoor and outdoor pools, a flume, a lazy river, and much more to enjoy.
The Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery is in the centre of town with amazing exhibits that celebrate the characters and stories created by the beloved author. This award-winning gallery is in an old coaching inn and makes for a great family day out.
Bucks County Museum is also in Aylesbury town centre, with plenty of events for families and fascinating collections and exhibits celebrating the stories of Bucks people.
For an evening at the theatre, Aylesbury Waterside Theatre hosts many of London’s West End productions and touring musicals.
