2021 Starts With Heavy Activity In Housing Market

With Rightmove being the leading property portal in the country, it is natural people look to them to see how the housing market is faring. Even if you don’t use the site, user numbers and activity there is a good indicator of what is happening in the market.

Therefore, when Rightmove say they have experienced the busiest start to a New Year, you pay attention.

The leading property portal says that buyer activity has created a 30% year-on-year increase.

People still want to move

With the stamp duty holiday still in place, there are people looking to arrange a property deal before the deadline approaches. It will be tight, but there are always people leaving things to the last minute.

Also, the new lockdown will have left many people considering the benefits of a larger home.

We remain open to help you in and around Forest Hill

At Hunters Forest Hill, we are pleased to say we are still open, and that the housing market is operational during the new lockdown period.

The figures provided by lockdown suggests for Tuesday 5th January and Wednesday 6th, there was an 11% increase in buyer enquiries. There was also an increase in the rental market of 22%.

This means landlords should be aware of the demand for property. We are not only here to assist buyers and vendors in the local market, we look to provide landlords and tenants with support and guidance.

We know the start of 2021 has proven to be a challenging one, but there is cause for optimism as we look ahead. If you would like to move, and you need support, please get in touch, and we will be more than happy to assist you.

Tim Bannister, Rightmove’s Director of Property Data, comments: "January is usually one of our busiest months of the year as people start to make new year plans to move, as was the case at the start of last year when we also had the post-election bounce that gave hope of an active spring market, before that all changed with the temporary closure from March until May. We didn’t know how this year would start with so much change and uncertainty around restrictions, but it’s been reassuring for those people hoping or needing to move that the demand we’ve seen so far is the highest we’ve ever had in January.”

"The housing market has been allowed to stay open during these latest lockdowns and agents have already spent months working in a covid-secure way and creating a number of property videos, so buyers and renters starting out on their search this year will find that, alongside the safe viewing protocols, more agents are offering virtual viewings to help buyers and renters better shortlist the properties they want to go and see."

At Hunters Forest Hill, we know selling property is challenging, but we are here to assist you in the process. If you aim to buy, sell, let your home or rent property, we are active in New Cross, Peckham, Dulwich and Brockley, in addition to Forest Hill, so get in touch with one of the top three agents in London, and we will be happy to assist you.
