There are many fantastic attractions in and around Forest Hill, but it is fair to say the Horniman Museum and Gardens are the top attraction for so many people. During the lockdown period, the Horniman Gardens have remained open. This has made the space one of the most visited sites in the local area, with people enjoying regular exercise and fresh air in a glorious setting.
However, the museum has been closed, and this has been upsetting for many people. The people employed at the museum have not enjoyed being unable to work, and the many guests who attend have been denied the chance to see some of the most exceptional exhibits in the whole of London.
However, there is some positive news for the local community as The Horniman Museum is reopening from 30th July 2020. The occasion will be marked with an extended run of the Permian Monsters exhibition, which is now scheduled to run until 3rd January 2021. The museum will also display galleries of natural history, world cultures and a vast array of musical instruments.
The main café will also re-open in July
People will also be pleased to learn the main café will reopen at this time. There have been additional facilities on site such as the Sunday Market, café kiosks in the garden area and toilets which have been opened for some time, but with the museum reopening, a sense of normality is returning to the local area.
Not all attractions and exhibits will be opened when the Horniman Museum reopens for visitors. The Aquarium and the Butterfly House will be closed for a bit longer. Also, some of the interactive exhibits have been removed while others have been covered up.
There will be social distancing and a range of safety measures in place throughout the Horniman Museum. Guests will see hand sanitisation stations around the property, and there will be an enhanced cleaning regime in place. There will be updated signage throughout the museum, and a one-way visitor route will be in place.
Guests need to pre-book their spot in the Horniman Museum
Anyone looking to attend the Horniman Museum should be aware they need to pre-book. Entrance to the museum is still free, but with demand expected to be high, people need to arrange a time-entry slot, and this can be booked at horniman.ac.uk, and the booking system opens on 20th July.
The Horniman Museum has, at the time of writing this article, 5,372 reviews, and it carries an average score of 4.6 out of 5. This is a hugely positive rating, and this score provides an overview of how loved the Horniman Museum is.
It is understandable why the museum has been closed for so long, a total of 134 days in total, but equally, there will be people counting down the days and hours until they can return to the venue. If you have never been to the Horniman Museum before, you should view the reopening as a perfect opportunity to head along and see what all the fuss is about.
