Lewisham Guitar Tutor Offering Online Lessons

During the current circumstances, it is vital to remain as positive and as upbeat as possible. This is a serious time, but if you can find a silver lining or some way to make the process more enjoyable, it will be easier for you to manage.

If you are spending more time at home, you may wish to take up a new hobby or develop skills which you have wanted to do for a long time. For many people, playing the guitar is a dream, and if you have additional time, this may be a brilliant way to remain active.

Do you want to play the guitar?

Of course, learning how to play the guitar can be difficult. Taking lessons can help you develop good habits, and ditch the bad habits, in a shorter time frame. You may not be able to meet with a guitar tutor for a one-to-one lesson, but you can participate in online lessons or take a one-to-one course with a tutor.

The Lewisham Guitar School has an excellent reputation in helping locals learn how to play the guitar. As you’d expect, the school isn’t operating as usual right now, but there is an excellent opportunity for people to learn online, and there is a range of video classes and courses made available.

One of the tutors, who is also a recording artist in her own right, has brightened up Saturday mornings of late by offering guitar, and ukulele, lessons. At the end of March, people took to Zoom on Saturday morning to talk through ‘Come Together’ by The Beatles.

This song, from the Abbey Road album, has a crunching guitar riff and a great stride to it. Of course, the song owed an awful lot to ‘You Can't Catch Me’ by Chuck Berry; and even though the Fab Four’s track is more than 50 years old, it still packs a punch.

The first Saturday in April saw the lessons offer something more contemporary. The track was ‘Do I Wanna Know’ by Arctic Monkeys, which is another excellent guitar track. The song, hailing from the band’s highly prized “AM” album remains a firm favourite of fans.

The ukulele lesson which followed focused on another song by The Beatles, this time ‘Hey Jude’. Even if you don’t know the song too well, it is likely you have heard and also sung along with the “na na na na na na na” section!

There is space for many budding guitarists on the lesson

All the lessons are free, and up to 100 people can view the Zoom lesson at any one time. All participants are sent a copy of the music sheet and tabs after the lesson has ended, so there is a chance to practice during the week and hone your guitar skills!

If you want to learn how to play the guitar, the lockdown may give you the time you need, so follow the Lewisham Guitar School for more tips and lessons.
