Abbey Wood is in the London Borough of Bexley and the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Abbey Wood train station provides good links to places such as Dartford and Charing Cross. The new Elizabeth Line has provided excellent access to central London with 12 trains running every hour during peak times. It takes just 30 minutes to reach London Paddington from here. There are also excellent local bus services and road connections making it easy to get around the local area, as well as further afield.

There’s preschool provision for very young children here and a wealth of primary schools, providing plenty of choice for younger children. Abbey Wood also has several secondary schools in and around the area.

The nearby retail park provides some of the well-known shopping brands for people, as well as some large supermarkets for the weekly shop.

Abbey Wood has plenty of places to go for a meal with family or friends. There’s some great independent cafes in the area, serving delicious food and drinks, and several restaurants too, with cuisines including African and Indian. When you’d rather stay in for the evening, there are plenty of takeaways to choose from. One of the local pubs retains some of its original features and runs fun events like music festivals.

Crossrail is helping to transform Abbey Wood, as the prospect of significantly better transport links attracts new businesses and investment. A new Sainsbury's supermarket has opened and planning permission has been approximately granted for 220 new homes and a new library and public square close to the station.

Elizabeth Line Services From Abbey Wood

Planned to open between October 2020 and March 2021, the Elizabeth line trains will allow passengers to travel right through central London to Paddington.

    Helen started her career 22 years ago working for a large independent agent in North Kent as a Trainee Negotiator. Before starting work at Hunters 6 years ago, Helen had worked for several local agents rising through the ranks to Branch Manager. She has always lived locally and brought up her family in the area so has a vast knowledge of the areas we cover. During her career Helen has dealt with all aspects of Agency including sales progression, lettings and property management and continues to add to her knowledge and skillset by regularly attending training courses held by The Property Franchise Group Training Academy. Helen’s priority is customer care and she regularly receives positive testimonials with many returning clients.

Local area guide

A suburb of South East London, the majority of Abbey Wood is positioned in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, but a smaller part is also within the borders of the Borough of Bexley.  It is less than ten miles east of Charing Cross, and has excellent transport links including Abbey Wood Railway station soon to become Cross Rail (due to open between October 2020 & March 2021) providing a link a cross London which is due for completion towards the end of 2018.

Abbey Wood has a number of local attractions and areas of interest including Lesnes Abbey Woods.  An ancient woodland with a diverse wildlife habitats, plants and flowers; the woods were named after the adjacent ruins of Lesnes Abbey (founded in 1178).  Nearby Bostall Heath and Bostall Woods are home to a bowling green, football facilities.  Both Lesnes Abbey and Bostall Heath Woods are part of the Green Chain Walk network.
