Local area guide
Originally part of Middlesex, as of 1889, Shoreditch is now part of London's beloved East End. There are different stories about the origins of the name "Shoreditch", the most romantic (though sadly untrue) is that this famous area of London is the burial site of Jane Shore, one of Edward IV's mistresses. It is now regarded as a haven for art and culture lovers with a range of properties available on and off of the water. For land lovers, prices start at just above £230,000 for studio properties and range up to the £4Million mark for gorgeous historic properties to buy.
Renters can look to pay anywhere from £600pcm for a room in a shared property and £30,000pcm for an open plan 5 bedroomed penthouse with only the finest city views. With great transport links to other areas of London, as well as out of the city entirely, Shoreditch is the perfect location for anyone looking to experience the London art scene at its best!
For the food lovers out there, Brick Lane is home to the best Salt Beef bagel in London, but two different bagel emporiums compete for the title of the best bagel! Fortunately, both are open 24 hours a day, so you'll have plenty of time to try each one and decide your favourite. If buffalo wings are more your thing, then a visit to The Orange Buffalo is in order, and for coffee lovers, the Rough Trade (which is also a musical paradise) is only a 3-minute walk away.
Maybe you’re craving fresh scents and Instagram worthy boutiques? Then look no further than the Columbia Road Flower Market. Alternatively, there are many flower stalls throughout the district that are perfect for browsing. With an array of beautiful shops and boutiques, you're certain to find trinkets you love. Fancy a spot of photography or want to explore more of the colourful history of the area? Try visiting the Geffrye Museum which specialises in textiles and furnishings. Or, you could immerse yourself in the mix of blockbusters and independent films showing at the Richmix Cinema.
Shoreditch is home to some incredible street art, though it's impossible to give recommended locations because it changes so frequently! Wander around the area and you'll stumble across new and different creations every few weeks. This is one of the best locations to see work from undiscovered gems, you can be amongst the first to view it by visiting or living in this thriving London hub.
When you've settled in, if you fancy trying something entirely new, it's also the home of the National Centre for Circus Arts. With a variety of day courses and longer programmes in a variety of skills, you're sure to find something you'll adore doing. There are courses available for all ages, so there's no excuse not to get involved!
Whether you're looking to make it your home for just 1 year, or your home for the next 15 (or maybe even longer) Hunters Shoreditch is here to help you find your next home. Get in touch with our office today and find out how we can help you live in the indescribable London area!
