Why live in Wigston?

Sitting on the outskirts of Leicester, Wigston represents excellent value for money and an attractive place for families to live.

Leicester is only 13 minutes by car and, from South Wigston, only 5 minutes by train, so it’s ideal for commuters. The M1 and M69 are the closest major motorways and is 30 minutes by car, heading north to Nottingham and south to London. Wigston also has good connections with nearby Birmingham, which is 49 minutes by train.

There are also many different schools in Wigston and the surrounding area, including state and private schools for all ages.

 When it comes to attractions, Wigston is surrounded by parks and golf courses, so there’s plenty of places to walk around and explore. The high street has all the household names you need, with more shopping in Leicester, Fosse Park shopping centre and Birmingham.

    Sacha has been in the industry for over 30 years starting off in the London Property Market. Covering all aspects of property including Residential Sales and Lettings, Commercial Sales and Lettings and also Property Auctions. She then relocated to Leicester over ten years ago and now specialises in Residential Lettings. She is now accredited with the Hunters National Qualification and soon to have this at diploma level. She is very bubbly and always tries to go above and beyond to look after her landlords and provide the service that meets their requirements, even being contactable out of normal office hours. When not working she enjoys spending time with her family and relaxing.

Local area guide

Wigston is approximately 5 miles south of Leicester city centre and is close to the Grand Union Canal which runs through Leicester. One of the attractions is the framework knitting museum near the centre of Wigston, which dates back to the 17th century linking in the textile industry in Leicestershire.

Wigston has great transport links to other regional areas. There is a train Station in South Wigston which links to the city centre, as well as further afield such as London, Birmingham, Peterborough and Nottingham. It is close to major routes such as the M1 and M69.The bus routes in Wigston are also good, linking the city centre & Fosse Park shopping outlet.

Nearby there is Brocks Hill country park, golf course, Leicester racecourse and a leisure centre, less than a few miles away.

There are 23 schools within the Oadby and Wigston district, including 14 primary, 7 secondary (including two with a sixth form) and two special schools. These schools in the Wigston catchment area are of particularly good quality, with the majority scoring a “good” or “outstanding” report from Ofsted.

Did you know that Wigston was first recorded in the doomsday book as lands owned by Hugo de Grentmesnil who was one of William the conquerors companions and fought at the battle of Hastings in 1066.
