Dursley is a market town halfway between Bristol and Gloucester.
The nearest train station is Cam and Dursley station, which is about three miles away The station is on the Bristol and Gloucester line, making both of these cities easily accessible for commuters. The M5 and A38 are also just a few miles from Dursley, so travelling by car to nearby towns and cities an easy option too.
Dursley’s Market House was built in 1738 and the open ground floor is a covered market space, while the first floor is home to the town council. Dursley has a range of regular markets here throughout the month, including a farmers market and a craft market.
There’s a great range of local, independent stores in the town centre, including a butcher, sweet shop, a ladies clothing store, pet shop and a fabric store. There are several supermarkets within the town too.
There are some great places to eat and drink in Dursley, with cosy cafes, traditional pubs, restaurants providing various cuisines, and lots of takeaways too.
There are plenty of local amenities, including a GP surgery, pharmacies, a library, a post office, and the nearest hospital is just a mile away, in Cam.
Dursley is hugely popular with walkers because The Cotswold Way runs right through the centre of the town, and also because it’s surrounded by beautiful countryside. The town hosts its own walking festival too, which runs every October.

Local area guide
Dursley is an old market town in Gloucestershire. It’s in the southern part of the Cotswolds and is about halfway between Bristol and Gloucester.
The nearest train station is Cam and Dursley station, which is about three miles away and there are regular local bus services running there. Cam and Dursley station is on the Bristol and Gloucester line, making both of these cities easily accessible for commuters. The M5 and A38 are also just a few miles from Dursley, which makes travelling by car to nearby towns and cities an easy option too.
Dursley has a local preschool and Dursley C of E Primary Academy for young children. There are more primary schools in Cam, which is the neighbouring village to Dursley. Rednock School is the local secondary school option, and it also has a sixth form.
In the centre of the town is the impressive Market House, which is a pillared building that dates back to 1738. The ground floor provides a covered market space and the first floor is home to the town council. The town enjoys a range of markets here, including a farmers market on the second Saturday of each month, and a craft market every fourth Saturday of the month.
There’s a lovely selection of independent stores in the town centre, such as Tolsey Two (a gift shop), The Dursley Pet Shop, That New Shop (a ladies clothes shop) and Inches (a fabric shop).
Dursley has a Sainsbury’s supermarket, Iceland Foods as well as The Co-operative Food store, providing great options for grocery shopping within the town.
When heading out for a coffee, choose from some lovely independent cafes, including Hummingbird Café, Traditional Bakery & Café, and Bank Café.
Dursley has a good selection of places to head out for a meal too. Della Casa and La Tosacana Dursley Restaurant & Cocktail Bar are both fantastic local Italian options, and Bengal Lounge provides great Indian food. There are plenty of takeaways to choose from including include Chinese, Indian, kebabs, pizzas and fish and chips.
The Old Spot Inn is a traditional local pub that won the 2007 CAMRA National Pub of the year. Found at the bottom of Stinchcombe Hill, this cosy pub dates back to 1776, and it has warming stove fires and serves up delicious food and great ales.
The nearest hospital is Vale Community Hospital in Cam, which is about a mile away. Dursley has May Lane Surgery for GP services, and there’s a Boots pharmacy and The Co-operative Pharmacy available locally too. The town also has its own post office and library.
The Cotswold Way runs straight through Dursley, making it a popular destination for walkers. There’s plenty of beautiful countryside to enjoy nearby, and Dursley enjoys its own walking festival every October.
