Having become a local landmark himself for more than 20 years, Branch Manager - Mark Symonds is a perfect advocate of the area and his knowledge of Fishponds is second to none. In many ways Mark has grown up with Fishponds and acknowledged and welcomed many changes. Mark takes us on a guided tour of the 7 best things about his area:

Fishponds has always been that hidden gem. Whilst other locations have often been more ‘fashionable’ or ‘trendy’, Fishponds has never wanted to be a ‘flash in the pan’. A wide choice of local schools to include some high profile established private schools and the recent addition of a Steiner school in the area justifiably encourage many families to target Fishponds as a perfect location for the future. 

Prices in the area over the years have also remained within the reach of most buyers, making it an affordable choice surrounded by an ocean of highly priced neighbourhoods.

Fishponds is no more than 5 miles from Bristol City centre and perfectly placed for the regular commuter by bus, bike or car. A connection with the M32 motorway is even nearer together with a Tesco Superstore and Ikea. Public transport and the hugely popular Bristol to Bath cycle path provide commuters with plenty of options.

One of the biggest surprises to Mark and many established local residents is the wealth of open green space surrounding us. Considering how close we are to the City, Mark is always surprised by the easy access to public open spaces in many of our parks to include Oldbury Court Estate, Eastville Park, Snuff Mills, the River Frome and valley walks – the perfect tonic for an active lifestyle. But it’s not all peace and quiet – Eastville Park plays host to some mighty festivals  Love Saves the Day, Bristol Islamic Cultural Fayre or Tokyo World – there always seems to be something happening.

Our High Street is also a great success story. Fishponds has always been lucky to attract a broad range of shops and services. In recent years the big food and grocery chains including Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, Co-operative and Sainsbury’s have all set up home in the area. The High Street is one of the longest in the area and if you get fed up with shopping, Fishponds’ now supports a growing number of coffee shops, traditional local pubs, independent restaurants, takeaways, other eating places and even a Micro Brewery.

One of the great qualities of area for an Estate Agent is a varied and eye catching selection of properties to own or rent. Mark loves the area for its truly diverse mix of purpose built flats and modern houses alongside amazing period 200 year old stone cottages.
