Why live in Sedgley?

Sedgley is a town near Dudley in the West Midlands.

While Sedgley doesn’t have a train station, there’s one a couple of miles away in Coseley with services to Birmingham that take just over 20 minutes. Commuting by car from Sedgley is very easy as it’s close to the M5, M6 and M40, and it’s only a short drive to the glorious countryside of Shropshire, South Staffordshire and Worcestershire. Birmingham International Airport is 40 minutes away and flies to beautiful destinations all around Europe.

Sedgley has good shopping, including Concord Market Hall, which has a great range of stalls selling various goods, including fresh food. There are also lovely independent stores selling gifts, baby clothes and haberdashery.

If you fancy a pit-stop coffee while out shopping, there are delightful independent cafes serving coffee, cakes and tea. There are national chains, independent pubs, and fantastic restaurants to save you from washing up for a drink or bite to eat in the evening. 

For a day out, there are lots of places to visit, including the Black Country Living Museum, which is only a mile away from Sedgley. This open-air museum is interactive, and you can look around reconstructed houses, pubs, shops and industrial areas.

The world’s first iron bridge is just a few miles away, too and well worth a visit. Other nearby options include Blists Hill Victorian Town, the Severn Valley Railway and Dudley Zoo & Castle.

    Jess joined the family business in 2010 and has unrivalled and extensive knowledge of the industry. Loyal to any task in hand and particularly calm under pressure, Jess has gained the appreciation and trust of clients and customers over the years. Since becoming a mother in 2021, Jess enjoys spending time with the family and soaking up the sun on holiday!

    Robbie has recently joined the team as Sales Manager, having previously worked for a corporate firm within the industry gaining a vast experience within all aspects of the job, from sales negotiating to valuing your home. Looking for a new challenge, Robbie has worked his way up the ranks and is now leading the sales department, valuing properties, assisting with sale progression, and providing the utmost service to all our clients. Robbie is eager and passionate about the task in hand, achieving the best price possible for all our clients and ensuring a smooth, stress-free transaction to go with it. In his spare time, Robbie plays football and is a dedicated football fan.

    Judy is a Sedgley girl, having extensive knowledge of the local area and has been part of the team since 2017. Judy is an experienced Estate Agent, having worked within the industry for above 20 years and is extremely passionate about the property business. Her main role at Hunters Sedgley is Sales Progression, particularly understanding the importance of customer support from ‘sale agreed’ to ‘completion’. Judy is an asset to the company, and the feedback she has received for providing exceptional customer service has been fantastic. When not working, Judy enjoys spending time with her family and going Northern Soul dancing!

    Emma has recently joined Hunters as our branch Lettings Negotiator, having many years’ experience within the property industry starting her career in 2017. Along with her wealth of knowledge, Emma provides the highest level of customer service, ensuring a smooth transaction from finding a suitable tenant to managing the tenancy. In her spare time, Emma is very family orientated, loves going out for meals and socialising, a keen walker, and an avid reader.

    Kelly joined Hunters in 2021 as a helping hand to the busy office in both the lettings and sales department. She now looks after the incoming enquiries and makes sure all our clients receive regular feedback following interest in their homes. Kelly is a credit to the team and her interpersonal, attention to detail and customer service skills are second to none. In her spare time, Kelly likes to bake (she is the office feeder), she is an avid reader and enjoys going on holiday.

    Nathan is the most recent addition to our growing sales team having worked within the industry for the last year representing another agent in one of the most sought-after areas of the West Midlands. Throughout this time, he has has gained a wealth of knowledge that has since added to our team. In his spare time, Nathan enjoys keeping fit at the gym and partaking in photography.

Tye is an asset to the company and looks forward to expanding the department and growing the lettings portfolio. In his spare time, Tye is a keen performer and director of musical theatre, is a dedicated family man and dog lover.

Local area guide

Sedgley is in Dudley in the West Midlands, and it’s close to Birmingham and makes a great place to live for commuters.

Sedgley doesn’t have a train station, but there’s one a couple of miles away in Coseley. From there, you can catch commuter trains to Birmingham that takes just over 20 minutes and opens up travel to the rest of the country. If you prefer to travel by car, Sedgley is close to the M5, M6 and M4, and it’s only a short drive to the glorious countryside of Shropshire, South Staffordshire and Worcestershire. For international travel, Birmingham International Airport is only 40 minutes away.

There are excellent schools in the Sedgley catchment area, including Queen Victoria Primary School, Saint Chad’s Catholic Primary School and Cotwall End Primary School. When it comes to secondary schools,  The Dormston School and Beacon Hill Academy, and Ellowes Hall Sports College is also nearby. 

Concord Market Hall has a great range of traders; there’s bakers, butchers, pet supplies, fruit, clothing and much more. The town also has an ASDA Superstore and Iceland. Sedgley has a good range of local independent stores within the town centre; Angel’s Boutique is a lovely gift shop, Belles Baby Boutique sells gorgeous baby clothes, and Beacon Crafts is a great wool store if you enjoy crafting.

The town centre has a great range of places to eat and drink. Boston Little Café is an intimate space with delicious food, Humbugs Coffee Shop is a lovely place to meet friends and catch up, and Tasty Plaice sells mouth-watering fish and chips. There’s also Subway, Greggs and a JD Wetherspoon pub called The Clifton. Spices is a popular modern Indian restaurant, and Ann’s Thai Restaurant is an excellent place for a special occasion.

The town has GP services and a Lloyds Pharmacy, and the nearest hospital is five miles away.

Sedgley is known for its part in the industrial revolution, and there are many fascinating places to visit. The excellent Black Country Living Museum is an interactive open-air museum with reconstructed houses, pubs, shops and industrial areas. 

A few miles away, there’s the famous Iron Bridge, and it was constructed by Abraham Darby in 1779 and was the first in the world. Blists Hill Victorian Town is not far away, which is a great day out, and the Severn Valley Railway. Dudley Zoo & Castle is nearby, with over 1,300 exotic and endangered animals living within the grounds of the 11th-century castle.
