Why Buy or Rent in Bridgend?

Bridgend as a County has pretty much everything to offer for every budget!

You can go from a £50,000 miners’ cottage in the valley to a £1 million pound barn conversion in the country.

The average property prices in Bridgend as of August 2020 were £159,849 but this varies dramatically from town to town. We have seen the average price rise for 3 years consecutively and in some areas rise considerably more than the national average.

The rental market in this area is very buoyant and we find many investors from around the UK selecting this area to invest in due to the lower house prices and the great location and transport links. The average rents in the area vary from £550 to £650 offering yields of anywhere between 5% and 15%.

    Luke Jones

    Franchise Partner

I set up an independent letting agent in 2010 as a bit of a side job, this quickly developed and in 2013 I decided to open the shop and venture into the world of sales. We have grown year on year and in 2017 I decided that in order to develop the business further that we join the Hunters family. I remain hands-on and still complete over 90% of the valuations and follow all the sales through where I can as this personal touch is what has made the business what it is. In my personal life I am fitness mad and I enjoy a multitude of sports including surfing, paddle boarding, cycling, gym but mainly running. I have completed many running events including marathons and ultra-marathons, many of these being for charity. I live locally and always have, I am passionate about our area and have explored many of the outdoors spaces this County has to offer.

Local area guide

Location

The County of Bridgend is quite diverse in what it has to offer, Ideally located in between Wales’ two largest cities of Cardiff & Swansea both only a 30 minute drive away, and with mountains to the North and The Coast to the South it is a great place to locate to.

The county itself is made up of a number of towns and villages, the main town being Bridgend itself with the larger towns of Pencoed to the East, Porthcawl to the South, Maesteg to the North.

With the M4 running through the heart of the County and mainline bus and train links, we are really well placed to travel in any direction. There are train & bus stations located throughout the county for easy access.

Attractions

With an extensive coast the County boasts a number of award winning beaches including Ogmore by Sea, Southerndown and Porthcawl’s Rest bay, Coney and Newton Beech offering a multitude of water and recreational activities.

To the North of the County there are the valleys of Ogmore, Garw and Llynfi for those more comfortable in the mountains.

Bridgend also boasts several parks and nature reserves including Kenfig pools, Parc Slip & Bryngarw and did you know we have 7 Castles in the County!!

Education

There are many primary and secondary schools throughout the county some of which feature highly on recent Estyn reports each covering different areas.

There are several Welsh speaking schools that cover the area and Bridgend College spread over several sites accommodate further education.

Shopping

We are lucky to have McArthur Glenn outlet at the centre of the County just off the M4 motorway with it’s many shops, restaurants and coffee shops. There are a number of other retail parks dotted on around the outskirts of town covering a multitude of merchandisers.

In the town centres of Bridgend, Maesteg and Porthcawl there is a great selection of shops and cafes, and each town has it’s own smaller high street.

Dining & Nightlife

There are a number of very good places to eat out from fine dining to pub food, with bars and clubs found in Bridgend Town, this being the largest selection.

With some of the larger towns having their own bars, pubs and restaurants around the county and a selection of country pubs to choose from.

Being so close to Cardiff it is a great location for access to the many sporting and cultural events available.
