Located at the foot of the Chiltern Hills and at the heart of the rich agricultural Vale of Aylesbury it has a population of 184,000 which is rapidly growing. The area offers fantastic schooling for all ages including grammar schools, and benefits from the recently built Aylesbury Vale Parkway railway station making it an easy commute to London.
The town is also rich in leisure facilities for example The Everybody Active leisure complex in the heart of the town which boasts three swimming pools – one of them has a retractable roof amongst many other first class facilities. The iconic Aylesbury Waterside Theatre has also recently had a major refurbishment to the tune of £42million and attracts many West End productions. Resting at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, Aylesbury is a market town that has grown in popularity over recent years due to its wealth of local amenities combined with its proximity to London.
At the heart of this thriving town is its historic centre, which still hosts a market on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays in the cobbled market square. The area around St. Mary’s church is especially charming, with winding alleyways and picture-perfect cottages dotting the area.
Aylesbury and surrounding villages offer a wonderful choice of housing options and styles to suit all budget from studio apartments through to large detached family homes. The area also enjoys some of the lowest unemployment rates in the country and healthcare that is acclaimed nationally with both Stoke Mandeville Hospital and The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospitals serving the local area.
The town is served by two train stations: Aylesbury Vale Parkway offers an easy commute to Marylebone station for those living in the northern suburbs of the town and the more central Aylesbury train station in the centre of town.
In addition to its rail links Aylesbury also benefits from being close to the M40, A41 and A418, allowing easy access to Oxford, Bicester, London and Milton Keynes.
One of Aylesbury’s greatest attributes is its education with not one, not two, but three grammar schools. The oldest is the boys’ only Aylesbury Grammar, which was founded back in the 16th century, followed by Sir Henry Floyd Grammar (founded in 1947) and the girls’ only Aylesbury High School (founded in 1959).
Other schools in the area include The Grange School, John Colet School, Aylesbury Vale Academy and The Mandeville School.
