Why live in Ealing?

Ealing is a leafy area of west London and it’s just over seven miles from Charing Cross.

Commuters love living in Ealing because there’s plenty of access to the Underground as well as national rail links. There are four tube stations here, and all of them fall into travel zone 3 and provide access to the Central, District and Piccadilly lines. First Great Western trains can get you to London Paddington in just 10 minutes, and Heathrow can be reached in under half an hour using the Heathrow Connect service.

There’s plenty of excellent options when it comes to schooling in Ealing. There’s a lot of local primary schools, a good amount of secondary schools (including mixed and single sex options), and there’s even a higher education campus here.

Ealing has shopping centres providing high street brands to the area and there are lovely independent stores here too, such as book shops and gift shops. Residents enjoy having easy access to several supermarkets within the local area, and there’s a well-established market here every Saturday, with plenty of quality, independent producers.

When heading out for a meal in Ealing, there are some well-known chain restaurants as well as unique independents, serving a range of cuisines.

Ealing is famous for its film studios, which were taken over by the BBC in 1955. This has led to the area featuring in many TV shows and films.

Local area guide

Ealing derives its name from Gillingas, meaning the people of Gilla, who may have been an Anglo-Saxon settler. Over the centuries, the name has changed and has had different variants until Ealing became the standard spelling in the nineteenth century. The Church of St. Mary's, Ealing, the parish church, dates back to at least the early twelfth century. The parish of Ealing was divided into manors, such as those of Gunnersbury and Pitshanger. Ealing's claim to fame was the film Studios which produced the Ealing comedies of the 1950s, including The Lavender Hill Mob. The building of the new shopping centre, opened in 1985, however, drastically altered part of the centre of Ealing.

Crossrail is coming to Ealing Broadway and West Ealing in 2017 and is currently and will continue to be very popular with investors after its arrival. Sought after pockets include around Haven Green, St Marys and the popular Pitshanger Village.

Ealing has been and continues to be an extremely popular area for residents and investors alike.  Historically known as the Queen of the Suburbs, Ealing boasts a wealth of attractive parks and open spaces, sought after state and private schools and fantastic transport links including multiple tube lines and future Crossrail.  Ealing’s property is diverse with large areas boasting Edwardian and Victorian buildings interspersed with modern developments being built all the time as demand for this wonderful area remains high.
